Guardian has a piece on the continuing decline of languages provision in univerisities. The biggest loss appears to be Salford, but there are now just 56 universities offering honours degree courses in languages. This raises several questions, several of which are discussed in postings on this website. At the very least, this evidence reinforces the case for a comprehensive review of teaching methods so that young people enjoy languages, know that they are making progress, and don't want to drop out.
