Robert Richardson Grammar School was founded by miners in 1910 to educate their children. It was "cut out" by Richard - Call me Dick - Copland in 1969. The expression is his. Copland's fans included Tony and Caroline Benn, who knew nothing about his school. They did not include my wife, or her classmates, for one very good reason. Copland had a degree in physics. When the school's physics teacher left, he was not replaced, as physics was an elitist subject. This left the A level physics class to try to teach themselves, from a book, with no teacher. Of course, there was a teacher. Dick Copland. He chose not to teach, and to leave the pupils to their fate. A few, including my wife, passed. Most did not. There may be a word in English to describe Copland, but I don't know it. The man was a disgrace to the teaching profession. Alternative views are available, here. They are, as ever in the comprehensive debate, redacted.
